This book is the fifth in a 10 volume set describing the concise history of the units of the Royal Australian Air Force between 1921 and 1996. It was was published and launched as part of the RAAF's 75th birthday in 1996.
Volume 5, Radar Units, gives an outline of the development of radar since 1939 and the nature of radar operations. The development of radar during World War II was highly secret and the men and women of the radar units served in isolated areas under primitive conditions. Their contribution to the Allies' victory has consequently remained largely unacknowledged. The compilers are indebted to Messrs E. Simmonds and F. Coughlan and to Wing Commander P. Smith for their pioneering research, and for the permission of the former to quote from their forthcoming book Echoes over the Pacific.
