Overview

The Australian Defence Force is employed across a spectrum of competition. This spectrum includes peaceful cooperation, through coexistence and competition, to crisis and armed conflict.

The tasks that the ADF could be employed in across this spectrum can be broadly characterised as pre-conflict deterrence and shaping operations to crisis and conflict response options.

The agility and reach of air power make it a critical component in modern conflict, capable of shaping the battlespace and providing decisive advantages through  speed, range and altitude, enabling rapid responses and the ability to strike at considerable distance.
